Barbara Enright tops Cleopatra tournament

By Sarah Polson
The ladies got their turn at the felt on Monday in the World Series of Poker Circuit events taking place at Caesars Palace. It was only fitting that one of poker's royal females would win the tournament nicknamed the Cleopatra Open.

Barbara Enright braved the field of 165 women who anted up the $340 buy-in for the tournament. Enright wasn't the only inaugural inductee into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame to enter the tournament either. Marsha Wagoner and Susie Isaacs were also in attendance.

While Wagoner and Isaacs were eliminated during the nine hours of play it took to get to the final table, Enright survived and was sitting third in the chip count.
Third in chips, however, still left Enright holding less than half of what the chip leader, Donna Dougherty, was holding.

Dougherty held onto that lead during the final table up until play got down to four-handed. Four-handed play dragged on for an hour as Dougherty's lead was chipped away.
A big blow for Dougherty came against Linh Vuong, who took half of her chips during one hand. Then Dougherty called an all-in move by Enright.

Dougherty seemed to be sitting well with pocket fours against Enright's 9-8, but Enright spiked a nine on the flop and her bigger pair held up to eliminate Dougherty in fourth place. Next out was Bea Hinton, leaving Enright and Vuong to battle heads-up.

When heads-up began, Vuong had a slight chip lead over Enright, but after getting lucky and catching a five to pair her K-5 against Vuong's K-T, Enright took the lead. Several hands later, Enright was finally able to finish the match as well.

Enright called Vuong's all-in bet with pocket fives against Vuong's 6-2. On a board of K-J-3-4-2, Enright's fives held up for the win.

WSOP Fever - Sponsored seats galore for 2008 event

With the 2008 World Series of Poker only months away, there has been a marked increase in seat sponsorship promotions...and not just at the top independents like Poker Stars and Full Tilt who as usual are offering a slew of WSOP entries as tournament prizes

This week Ultimatebet was offering tournament activity leading to $12,000 Main Event prize packages featuring the $10 000 WSOP buy-in and $2 000 for travel accommodations. One promo alone this week had 25 WSOP seat sponsorships in the prize pool.

Titan Poker is offering executive seat packages of a $10 000 buy-in to the Main Event as well as registration fees and a 14-night accommodation (July 3rd - July 17th) for two in a luxury suite along with money for flights and spending, together with executive perks like two tickets to the "Blue Man Group" show in the Blue Man Group theatre at the Venetian Resort, dinner for two at the exclusive "SW Steakhouse" at the Wynn Hotel, and limousine pick-up to and from the Las Vegas airport.

Main and Side Events Super Satellite Series, each offering prize packages worth $14 000 and $6 500, respectively are also available.

A company spokesperson said "we are thrilled to offer a prize package of this magnitude. We want our players to have the experience of a lifetime while being a part of poker's most premier yearly event."

From Gibraltar, 32Red Poker has announced that they will be offering seats at the World Series of Poker to their players, in packages worth over $16 200 each. The WSOP seat promotion includes the $10 000 buy-in fee, $3 000 in travel expenses to Las Vegas and 32Red Poker are giving an extra $3 200 to the first seat winner.

32Red Plc CEO Ed Ware says, "It's exciting to think 32Red Poker could be taking players to the WSOP to play against the world's best. We're confident our players would be competitive, having honed their skills and become winners with us at 32Red Poker."

The competition to win the WSOP seats through 32Red Poker involves a series of satellite tournaments. The winners progress through the 32Red Poker tournaments and join one of the six finals. The winners of each will be jetted off to Vegas and the WSOP.

Chili Poker is also among the websites offering opportunities to fly to Vegas for the 2008 World Series of Poker, trips to Monte Carlo, $20 000 poker jackpot opportunities, and other tournament offers.

Even non-poker websites are offering WSOP seats. PoolStars is giving poker players a chance to walk away with a seat in the World Series of Poker Main Event. The online billiards site offers a virtual version of the popular recreational game...and is attracting players with a WSOP promo.

These, and many other websites offer online poker fans a multitude of opportunities to win through to Vegas and the poker world's biggest event, rubbing shoulders with the top players on the planet in the unique ambience of the traditional gambling capital of the world.

Titan Poker Raises its Stakes with $16,000,000 Guaranteed Monthly

Online poker room Titan Poker's monthly Guaranteed Prizes have doubled in just five months.

Titan Poker, the largest poker room on the iPoker Network, now guarantees more than $16,000,000 in monthly online poker tournaments. This monumental increase reflects the growing status and success of the popular online poker room.

Titan Poker's guaranteed prize pools are continuing to rise weekly, based on the rapidly growing number of players constantly drawn to the online poker room's exciting promotions, thrilling tournaments and excellent customer service. Titan Poker recently captured Gambling Online Magazine's Gold Award for providing the Best Online Poker Customer Service for the second year in a row.

Just five months ago, Titan Poker was guaranteeing less than half of what it now puts on the table in its round-the-clock tournament schedule.

"We are constantly seeking new ways to offer our players more chances to play and even bigger prizes to win," a spokesman for Titan Poker shared. This probably accounts for the tremendous success that Titan Poker is experiencing and then passing on to its players by giving them even more varieties of poker play month to month.

Titan Poker regularly honors its players with seats at the world's most well-known poker tournaments. Titan Poker's qualifying players will deal in at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas later this summer. This year, it is offering even more seats and opportunities to qualify for the WSOP. The new WSOP Executive Package will endow players with an opportunity to play poker in Vegas in royal style. Initiatives like this are certainly contributing to Titan Poker's titan success.

Titan Poker players enjoy EPT event

By Sarah Polson
Titan Poker regularly sends its players to major events all around the world, and the latest was the European Poker Tour San Remo event.

The poker site sent a delegation of seven players to compete in Italy's first EPT event, with its delegation including players from Austria, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

The seven players won their seats to the EPT San Remo event at Titan Poker. Their prize packages were worth $10,000, which included the 5,000 euro buy-in to the main event as well as money for flights and accommodations.

While none of the players turned their seats into a win, a couple of them said they came away with the experience of a lifetime.

"The player that busted my pocket jacks with his Q-6 was Anthony Lellouche, who played extremely well and went on to finish in second place," said Daniel Walker, a prize package winner from the United Kingdom.

"He definitely put my chips to good use. Thanks again for organizing a great week - I had a spectacular time!"

Kenneth Tomming, from Denmark, turned his seat at the EPT into a chance to play against Daniel Negreanu. Tomming will also be taking on players in Madrid in May with the seat he won at Titan Poker for the EuroCity Madrid tournament sponsored by the poker site.

Titan Poker has already sent players to the Aussie Millions this year as well as various EPT Events. Upcoming events that players can try to win seats to are the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas and the World Poker Showdown taking place in the Dominican Republic later this year.

For players looking for more online actions rather than seats in a live tournament, the poker site will host the European Championship of Online Poker II in May with $3.6 million in guaranteed prize pools spread through the events.

PokerStars Launches PokerStars.tv

Haley Hintze
PokerStars has launched a new video site dedicated to "offering live webcasts of major events and a unique collection of high quality poker footage." The site, currently in the beta-testing phase, is located at pokerstars.tv and includes, among other things, a heavy dose of current Stars-sponsored events and the latest happenings from the growing Team PokerStars player lineup.

The site includes a video tutorial narrated by Daniel Negreanu, which gives an overview of what the site contains and how site members can use and access the material. For instance, under the "Channels" tab at the top of the site, users will find sub-groups for major events such as the European Poker Tour, channels dedicated to each Team PokerStars pro, under which are found live-play videos, instructional comment, interviews, and behind-the-scenes peeks at each player. These are joined by several other categories, such as "Online Action," "Sweat the Hand," and "Fun Stuff."

The site, which in some respects can be thought of as a Stars-themed version of an online video library such as YouTube, already contained over 500 videos when the beta-test version was announced. At present, the videos are available only in English, though Stars has announced its intentions to launch video libraries in other languages as well. The site also includes a searchable database of filters, so videos sorted by player, event, type of hand, or many other topics can be located with ease. PokerStars.tv also allows registered users to e-mail video links to other players, or to embed the code for a given video on other websites. Registered users can also personalize their favorites by creating their own video "channel" and selecting their preferences.

Alternate feeds of live coverage such as the European Poker Tour Monte Carlo Grand Final are available here as well, with the beta site currently offering live feeds in six languages - English, German, Dutch, French, Italian and Spanish.

Win Seats to the ECPT at Titan Poker

Barry Carter
Titan Poker are once again rewarding their loyal members with a series of free rolls to some of the biggest tournaments in Europe, online and offline. VIP members will be given the chance to win seats in the second European Championship of Online Poker (ECOOP II) and the latest tour on the European poker circuit, the Eurocity Poker Tour (ECPT) Madrid Open.

On the 18th of April, Titan Poker will award ten packages worth $3000 each to the ECPT Madrid. This is more value than just an amazing free roll, because the event is open to just two hundred players, so it might be some peoples only chance at a place. The tours first leg is at the Casino Gran Madrid in Spain and this new kid on the block could become one of the most prestigious titles in Europe.

At the end of April Titan Poker will also be holding the ECOOP VIP Special, which is giving away three $3,420 packages. That is entry into all ten of the ECOOP II events. If you don't win this free roll you could still snag two ECOOP seats if you earn enough Titan Poker Points.

PKR Online Poker Room Reaches New Heights

Next generation online poker room PKR.com is continuing its trend for being innovative and has taken to the skies with a new and original ad campaign.

Partnering with top aerial advertising company Helibanners Ltd. and their patented Helicopter Overcity Banner Systems, PKR.com commissioned a bespoke 25,000 square foot banner that is designed to fly over major events in and around London.

The banner, with a massive advertising area of 207 x 139 ft (roughly 3/4 of the size of a football pitch), is visible for more than 10 miles and introduces PKR.com to over a million people every flight.

With three flights under its belt, the response to the banner has been overwhelmingly positive. PKR.com Marketing Director Simon Prodger said, "It's a pretty awe-inspiring spectacle, and one that no one expects to see. We've gotten reports of sightings from all over London, and people have even been sending in their own cameraphone images."

Helibanners operates in a number of countries globally and PKR.com is considering expanding their advertising to other key markets.

The next scheduled flight is April 26th, and the flight path will include Central London and the Chelsea v Manchester United Premiership football match at Stanford Bridge.

NASCAR driver Tony Stewart and Kid Rock play poker in Detroit

NASCAR driver Tony Stewart and Kid Rock met up in Detroit at the Michigan International Speedway to play a little poker.

NASCAR driver Tony Stewart and Detroit's own Kid Rock showed up at the Michigan International Speedway this past week to play a little poker at the Motor City Hotel & Casino in Detroit for part of the LifeLock 400 media day.

Stewart played poker in the casino's poker room with members of the local media who cover the Michigan International Speedway races.

Apparently, Stewart is a regular poker player, but was facing stiff competition from the free-rolling media and from his friend Kid Rock, who was in town for a different event and dropped into play a few hands with the group and his good friend Stewart.

"Some of these guys really mean business," Stewart said jokingly. "I was having a tough time for a while. I finally ended up getting a few good hands at the end though."

Along with the media a couple of fans got to play with Stewart and the K-i-d as part of a local radio station promotion. Mark Casteele, his girlfriend Debbie (who apparently is like Cher and has no last name), Michele Tallent and Chris Rutledge were given the opportunity to play poker with Stewart thanks to WIOT radio in Toledo, Ohio.

Guess what? There are a ton of celebrities who play in the WSOP Main Event. Guess what else? You can win a seat to play with those celebrities at the 2008 WSOP for as little as $1 through Bodog Poker. So, head over to the Bodog and check out the 2008 WSOP online poker qualifiers.

ePassporte shutting down in US, withdrawals going thru

It all started as a rumor on the popular poker forum 2+2, today, however, it was confirmed that the online payment processor "ePassporte" is shutting down service to the online gambling and poker industries allowing American players. According to a statement by ePassporte, the decision by the e-wallet to stop deposits to online poker and gambling websites in the U.S. stems from "a widespread investigation of Internet gambling, including poker, by the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Southern New York...Although we do not believe we have done anything illegal, we do not wish to be associated with anything that might be considered illegal by the United States Government," the ePassporte statement continues, as quoted by the website Gambling911.

No further details have been released, it remains unknown whether funds of poker and casino players will be frozen, although poker players report that withdrawal transactions from ePassporte continue to go through. All online poker rooms and gambling websites have already removed the ePassporte as a method of depositing money by US customers. Canadian players confirmed that ePassporte remains a depositing option for them, but rumors claim that ePassporte may shut down services for the entire poker and gambling industry, regardless of player residence. All poker players and gamblers using ePassporte as their primary payment method are urged to immediately request a withdrawal.

PokerStars Announces "Battle of the Planets"

Haley Hintze

Leading online poker site PokerStars has just announced a new sit-and-go (SNG) tournament leader board concept, launching its "Battle of the Planets" promotion that will pay out over $3,000,000 per year to its participants.

Split into eight separate divisions, one named after each of the solar system's planets in order of increasing size (Pluto having been recently shorn of its "planetary" status), the new Battle of the Planets ongoing series offers competition at all levels of SNG buy-ins, not just the highest ones. The Mercury level, for example, governs SNGs with buy-ins from $1 to $2.99, while the Jupiter level, at the top end of the scale, includes buy-ins at $300 and up.

The concept also splits winners into "low orbit" and "high orbit" brackets, designed for both moderate and high levels of SNG participation. A qualifying group of poker tournaments in any level's "low orbit" bracket would consist of a block of 20 tournaments, with each successive block of 20 tournaments played counting as a separate block for qualifying purposes. Similarly, the "high orbit" brackets are computed based on 100-SNG blocks, requiring a higher level of participation to qualify.

Qualifying SNGs contain fewer than 40 players and points are awarded, roughly speaking, for the money spots. Each week's action runs Sunday through Saturday, with the specific buy-in levels and the total payouts for each level as follows:

Division - SNG Buy-in - Low Orbit Prize Pool - High Orbit Prize Pool
Mercury - $1-$2.99 - $1,500 - $1,500
Mars - $3-$4.99 - $2,000 - $2,000
Venus - $5-$9.99 - $2,500 - $2,500
Earth - $10-$19.99 - $3,000 - $3,000
Neptune - $20-$49.99 - $3,500 - $3,500
Uranus - $50-$99.99 - $4,000 - $4,000
Saturn - $100-$299.99 - $4,500 - $4,500
Jupiter - $300+ - $5,000 - $5,000

In addition, the top ten players in each division for each week will be awarded free entry into a month-end freeroll with $50,000 in prize money up for grabs in a triple shootout format. More information is available on the PokerStars.com site.

Ladbrokes offers WSOP seats for European players

There are plenty of poker sites out there offering seats to the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event, but not all of them have the seal of approval from the World Series of Poker. Ladbrokes Poker does and it has more than 100 seats to hand out to European players for this year's Main Event.

Until June 19, players at Ladbrokes Poker will be able to compete to win an "ultimate" WSOP package exclusively for European players to compete in the 2008 WSOP Main Event.

Each Wednesday, the poker site will host a $1,000+$90 WSOP final starting at 7:45 p.m. (GMT) that will award a prize package for every $14,000 in the prize pool. At least one WSOP prize package is guaranteed each week.

The prize package includes:

Ladbrokes Poker will be providing accommodation to the European qualifiers starting July 2 to allow them three days to acclimate before beginning play in the Main Event .

There are plenty of ways for players to win their way into the weekly final as well for a much smaller portion of their bankroll.

There are daily satellites into the weekly event that cost $100+$9 and last-chance satellites for that price on the day of the WSOP final. Players can also work their way into the daily satellites via a range of $11+$1 satellites.

"On top of the usual WSOP tournaments and satellites. the cheapest of which is $1, we're giving away over $300,000 of Ladbrokes WSOP packages to our players through our weekly Cash Game Rake Races, our Monthly MTT Leaderboard and five to the winners of our exclusive WSOP League," said Edward Ihre, Ladbrokes Poker MD.

"So everyone has an equal chance of winning a place on the Ladbrokes Poker team regardless of whether they are a tournament or cash, player, a grinder or luck box."

Last year Ladbrokes Poker also sent 100 players to the Main Event and came away with some pretty impressive results:

  • 54th Place: Richard Harris, $190,053
  • 55th Place: Paul Kershaw , $154,194
  • 122nd Place: Sylvester Geoghegan, $58,570

Steve Davis will once again captain that team that heads to the WSOP under the Ladbrokes Poker flag. He came in 579th during the 2006 WSOP Main Event to pocket $20,617. The Ladbrokes Team will include the qualifiers from the poker site as well as the site's sponsored players.

"This year we have striven to provide team members with the best environment possible to emulate or better the two 12th place finishes the team enjoyed in 2005 & 2006 and beat the 10 major cashes we achieved in the Main Event last year," Ihre said.

"Competing as Team Ladbrokes has many benefits apart from the camaraderie and the renowned Ladbrokes hospitality that our players have come to expect; it's a chance to be part of a winning team."
